The Mercenaries from the US

News Type: Opinion — Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:48 AM EST

There are reports out of Kabul about seriously lewd conduct and sexual misconduct by mercenaries employed by civilian contractors. According to media reports the contract with ARMORGROUP is not going to be renewed. Meanwhile there are 104000 such personnel in Afghanistan. It is well known that US forces used Bangkok as a rest and recreation area for the troops in VietNam and Hollywood has given full coverage to all that happened in Bangkok---drugs and sex.

Afghanistan is a Muslim country with a strong culture of religiosity. Afghans are a proud people with their own culture---a culture they defend with their lives as the Soviets and many others found out the hard way.

Meanwhile if the rumors on the streets of Pakistan are anything to go by then there is a disaster waiting to happen. There are reports of Americans and Arabs being arrested in a major city; there are incidents in which Americans from the Embassy and possibly employed by contractors like Blackwater and Xe have tangled with police and acted inappropriately and there are reports of local laws, customs and traditions being blatantly violated. It is only a matter of time before a disaster takes place.

Please quote your sources, and provide credible links for this seed.

Also:

It is only a matter of time before a disaster takes place.

The above is simply opinion, it is not a matter of reporting of a news event.

So it does, but her "opinion" thus far is based off baseless unnamed and uncredited sources. I could say that the earth is about to plunge into the sun based on reports and then follow it up by saying it is only a matter of time before disaster takes place. That does not make it proper reporting.

Opinions not based on fact are pretty much worthless, your opinion must be supported by something tangible to be credible or else it is careless reporting and sensationalism.

Americans associated with the military are going to go after the things that make them happy, Sex being high on the list. Being retired military, I say mark this day that you've read the warning. When it happens you'll confirm she was right. We are a kick a$$ military, but when we have to stay around we look for something to do, sex and drinking are on our favorites list.

So what? I could care less.Bangkok is well known for its night life. Why are you not raising hell about U.N. troops raping children in chad and other African deployments and why hasn't the U.N. done anything other than cover it up.Could it be you have another agenda?Right now over 12 nations openly use merc's or pmc's.Get over it.

There may be a few instances of immoral U.N. troops that have committed crimes, but i daresay, from everyone I have talked to who has served overseas, whether Iraq or Afghanistan, its kind of a free for all with drugs, liquor, and sex. No wonder, we are having communication problems. This is not to say that there aren't wonderful, and responsible, intelligent, and very good people in the military, but those who aren't are bringing them down, way down. A lot of people i know have stated this.

Its odd to me, I would think if you are in harm's way and on dangerous missions, you would need and desire a clear head in the worst way. The United Nations has corruption as well, but Africa is a different ball of wax altogether. see quote below from former U.N. general Romeo Daillaire; a man torn by abandonment and loss during the horrific genocide of Rwanda in 1994. Many of the problems stem from the corruption that is easily being obtained in the middle east, because of mercernaries and their lackidasical attitude toward supply and demand, and greed. Its a free for all for commodities. and sad. I agree, the article was lacking some facts and insightfulness, but makes up for it in the willingness to openly discuss a difficult situation. I sort of was being funny with the opinion comment, but i digress. here is an excellent quote from a man who knows how the stuggle and indecency in the world operates.

"Rwanda will never ever leave me. It's in the pores of my body. My soul is in those hills, my spirit is with the spirits of all those people who were slaughtered and killed that I know of, and many that I didn't know. … Fifty to sixty thousand people walking in the rain and the mud to escape being killed, and seeing a person there beside the road dying. We saw lots of them dying. And lots of those eyes still haunt me, angry eyes or innocent eyes, no laughing eyes. But the worst eyes that haunt me are the eyes of those people who were totally bewildered. They're looking at me with my blue beret and they're saying, "What in the hell happened? We were moving towards peace. You were there as the guarantor" -- their interpretation -- "of the mandate. How come I'm dying here?" Those eyes dominated and they're absolutely right. How come I failed? How come my mission failed? How come as the commander who has the total responsibility-- We learn that, it's ingrained in us, because when we take responsibility it means the responsibility of life and death, of humans that we love." Romeo Daillaire
